Aiken YMCA is hosting a free trick-or-treating event for children

AIKEN, SC. (WRDW/WAGT) – The Aiken YMCA hosted its annual Trick-or-Treat on the Trails event Saturday.

It’s one of the many Halloween activities that will take place over the next few weeks.

It typically helps raise funds for the YMCA’s programs, including “A Place to Dream.”

Organizers say they typically see 800 to 1,000 children at the event and had a large turnout this year.

But this year the organizer made it free with the aim of helping the community.

“We opened our place to the community and saw how much they were struggling. We decided to make it a free event,” said executive director Samantha Whittaker. “Above all, we wanted this time to be normal for the children.”

She said the path was damaged but was cleaned by volunteers.

On Sunday, the North Augusta YMCA will host a Trunk or Treat from 6 to 8 p.m

Next week, Community centers in Augusta host Halloween events with candy, fun and more.
