Nice Sunday and warming up early next week

Nice Sunday and warming up early next week

Happy Saturday evening everyone. We had calm skies again over the Ozarks, taking us from morning lows through the 40s and back into the 70s this afternoon. With the high pressure at the surface under control, we will do this again on Sunday as we keep an eye on our next storm system, the upper low of which rotates over the Four Corners.

We are waiting for our upper level low to move toward the southwestern United States(KY3)

As our dry air and clear skies continue tonight, low temperatures in the Ozarks will fall back into the lower to mid 40s. With the same setting, temperatures may rise back into the mid to upper 70s Sunday afternoon.

Although some high clouds form late in the day Monday, our warming trend will continue. After morning lows start in the mid to upper 40s, more of us should see highs in the upper 70s Monday afternoon.

High temperatures are expected to remain above normal over the next week, with highs most days in the upper 70s to lower 80s. A possible exception would be Thursday with highs in the lower 70s behind a temporary cold front during the week.

As far as possible rain chances go, we are watching a few systems for the coming week. Our system in the southwestern United States will pass near the Ozarks on Tuesday morning. Although it will do its best to work with as much lift and moisture as possible, I expect only isolated to widespread showers for parts of the Ozarks on Tuesday while everyone else stays dry.

After this wave subsides, a cold front on Wednesday and a weak upper wave on Thursday could attempt to produce a few scattered showers, particularly in the southern Ozarks, while most remain dry again. By Friday, another upper level storm system could pass nearby, giving us another chance for isolated to widespread showers during the first half of Friday. Once that clears, I expect the skies to remain calm for the rest of Friday and into next Saturday.

While it is encouraging to see these systems attempting to line up and pass through or nearby, avoiding potential rainfall still requires overcoming significant amounts of dry air in the middle layers of the atmosphere. Unfortunately, I think this will limit potential rainfall amounts over the next week, as forecasts show much of the area remaining under a quarter of an inch.

Looking beyond next weekend, a new look at the forecast for November suggests further rounds of cooler air and active weather are looking to return. The sooner we can start to cool things down and increase the chance of rain here, the sooner we can combat the region’s ongoing drought.
