Lansing Community College is hosting a free drone training event

LANSING, Mich. (WILX) – Lansing Community College hosted a free drone training event on Saturday.

The event was open to anyone interested and aimed at people starting to fly drones.

Attendees had the opportunity to learn from industry experts who shared best practices when flying drones with safety as the top priority.

“The community can’t pass up on getting a trust recreational license,” said Shelley Jeltma, assistant professor at Lansing Community College. “If you fly a drone, even if just for fun, the FAA requires a certificate of trust. They are free and you can use them online. You can’t fail, but it teaches you the basics of flying drones safely and doesn’t get you in trouble.”

After participants completed their flying lessons, they were able to complete the confidence test, which allowed them to become officially certified recreational pilots.
