OXFORD, Ohio – In the 100thTh Battle of the Bricks, the Ohio football program (4-3, 2-1 MAC), fell 30-20 to the Miami RedHawks (3-4, 2-1) this Saturday (October 19) at Yager Stadium MAC).

Graduate quarterback Parker Navarro (Tempe, Ariz.) as a redshirt junior quarterback finished the game 13-22 for 88 yards through the air Nick Poulos (Granite Bay, Calif.) went 9 of 21 for 93 yards. Both quarterbacks contributed on the field, with Navarro posting a team-best 38 rushing yards. Poulos finished right behind him, with 29 net yards and a touchdown. PhD student running back Anthony Tyus III (Portage, Mich.) and redshirt junior running back Nolan McCormick (Mason, Ohio) each scored a rushing touchdown.

Defensive, graduate student defensive end Marcel Walker Burgess (Piscataway, NJ) and redshirt freshman DJ Walker (Aliquippa, Pa.) led the team with five tackles each. Safety for children Adonis Williams Jr. (South Euclid, Ohio) returned to the field in excitement, recording four tackles during the game.

Redshirt senior punter Jack Wilson (Lancefield, Victoria, Australia) finished the day with seven punts and 304 yards. Two punts were over 50 yards long, with his longest punt being 56 yards.

The RedHawks struck first, hitting a 28-yard field goal with 6:42 left in the first quarter. Miami extended its lead in the second quarter, capping an eight-play, 58-yard drive with a 14-yard passing touchdown. The RedHawks made the most of an interception – returning it for 33 yards – and scored their second touchdown of the day with 19 seconds left in the half. After missing the PAT, Miami led 16-0.

The Bobcats put together a 15-play, 75-yard drive in the third quarter that ended with a one-yard rushing touchdown by Tyus. After a failed two-point conversion, Ohio cut the deficit to 10 points. Miami responded with a one-play drive spanning 11 seconds, scoring a 58-yard rush and extending its lead to 17 points. The RedHawks extended their lead before the end of the quarter by scoring a 28-yard receiving touchdown to increase the score to 30-6.

With 5:58 to play, McCormick scored his first touchdown of the season, capping an 11-play drive with a one-yard rush into the end zone. After Poulos’ successful pass to the redshirt junior wide receiver Caleb Gossett (Lewis Center, Ohio) A two-point conversion helped the Bobcats cut the RedHawks’ lead to 30-14. Poulos finished the game with his first rushing touchdown as a Bobcat and scored Ohio’s final six points with just six seconds left. Miami couldn’t be caught, Ohio fell 30-20.

Next up, the Bobcats return to Athens to host the Buffalo Bulls on Saturday, October 26th. During the final Saturday game of the regular season, Ohio will recognize its seniors and Frank Solich, who will be inducted into the NFF College Football Hall of Fame in December.
