“What he talks about is real”

Vice President Harris this week publicly agreed with a protester who interrupted her to accuse Israel of “genocide.”

The moment was lost during a campaign stop Thursday at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee when a pro-Hamas UWM student began shouting as the Democratic presidential candidate spoke, video of the exchange showed.

“I’m so invested in all of you in every way,” Harris can be heard saying as the interruption began.

“And in genocide, right?” said the heckler.

“Billion dollar genocide. Billion dollar genocide.”

Someone can be heard off-camera whispering “shut up,” but the outburst continues.

“I’m speaking,” Harris said, before launching into her now hackneyed response to similar interruptions.

“I know what you’re talking about. I want the ceasefire. I want the war to end. And I respect your right to speak, but I’m speaking right now.”

“But what about genocide? But what about the genocide?” shouted the protester, who was wearing a keffiyeh.

The man was then led out of the hall while shouting: “19,000 children are dead and you won’t call it genocide.”

A heckler at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee repeatedly accused Israel of committing “genocide.”
Vice President Harris appeared to support his view, telling the assembled crowd that the problem was “real.”

In the silence that followed his exit, Harris turned back to the audience.

“Listen, what he’s talking about is real. “This is not the topic I wanted to talk about today, but it is real and I respect his voice,” Harris said.

The vice president has never suggested that Israel’s defensive war in Gaza amounts to genocide against the Palestinian people.

“Kamala Harris just publicly confirmed the false and vicious accusation that Israel is committing genocide,” David Friedman, a former U.S. ambassador to Israel, told The Post on Saturday.

“Many, including myself, always suspected that she represented this distorted, anti-Semitic view of Israel’s self-defense against the barbarism of Hamas. But now the cat is out of the bag,” he added.

“Your view is as ignorant as it is malicious. … Publicly believing this vile blood libel disqualifies Harris from holding public office, let alone the presidency,” he said.

The closed-door event at the school’s Lubar Entrepreneurship Center was closed to journalists, but video of the moment was posted online. Harris’ motorcade also encountered pro-Hamas protesters as it arrived on campus, the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reported.

The heckler appears to be affiliated with the group UW-Milwaukee Popular University for Palestine Coalition, which posted a first-person account of the confrontation on its Instagram page Friday.

Harris’ family has also publicly expressed their condolences.

Both Harris’ stepdaughter Ella Emhoff and niece Meena Harris have raised money for the Palestinian cause.

Ella Emhoff’s activism included raising funds for the United Nations Palestinian Relief Agency, whose funding the United States had cut because of staff’s possible involvement in the October 7 attacks.

The incident came as Harris faced growing skepticism from Jewish voters, with poll after poll indicating their support for the Democratic Party is waning.

Harris’ comments, which appeared to reinforce the position that Israel is committing genocide, came just a day after the country killed Hamas terror leader Yahya Sinwar.

“That is not the view of the Biden-Harris administration or the vice president,” a Harris campaign official said.
