Georgia Football: Series History vs. Texas

I always love watching the entire time series history of Georgian football with its opponents every week. Typically, Georgia leads the series against whoever it plays, sometimes by a very large margin. But there are a few teams that have a leg up on Georgia and I’m sure you can think of a few.

But going into this game, I had no idea what the series would be like. As it turns out, Georgia and Texas have only played each other five times in their history, and only once since the mid-80s. This is quite surprising considering how storied both programs are.

Let’s take a quick look at what the history is between these two elite programs.

Unfortunately for Georgia, Texas is one of the teams that gives the Bulldogs a lead. Texas was actually very dominant against Georgia, holding a 4-1 all-time record.

The last meeting was in the Sugar Bowl in 2019 when Texas defeated Georgia 28-21. This was also the game in which the Longhorns’ mascot, Bevo, attacked Uga before the game. We have to avenge Uga for this on Saturday evening.

The last game after 2019 was in the 1984 Cotton Bowl, where Georgia won its only win in the series with a score of 10-9. Before that, however, Texas dominated, winning the first three games in 1949, 1957 and 1958. The 1958 game was the only meeting ever played on the Longhorns’ campus, a game Texas won 13-8.

Let’s hope Kirby Smart can turn the tide in this series on Saturday night, because a 1-5 record against Texas would look terrible. Georgia may be the underdog in this game, but that doesn’t mean it can’t pull off an upset win.

And it will be even better if the win comes at Texas Stadium, which also marks Smart’s 100th career win at Georgia.
