The Silent Hill 2 remake developer is open to further remakes

Key insights

  • Bloober Team has had a long journey with the remake of Silent Hill 2, but it apparently ended very positively.
  • When asked by IGN if the company would be interested in more remakes or a new game, the Bloober director said it was “always open.”
  • The final decision ultimately rests with Konami, but at least Bloober is interested in more.

Bloober Team director and designer Wojciech Piejko has confirmed that the developer is “always open” to developing more Silent Hill games, be it a remake or a brand new entry.

When it was first announced that Bloober Team would be developing the recently released remake of Silent Hill 2, it’s fair to say that most fans weren’t exactly pleased. Although Bloober has a lot of experience with the genre, its previous games like Layers of Fear and The Medium weren’t exactly subtle with their themes and scares, a necessity for Konami’s iconic psychological horror.

Silent Hill 2 works because James Sunderland is pathetic

Without James Sunderland at the center, this survival horror masterpiece would fail.

However, as we’ve learned over the last few weeks, we could all have used a little more faith, as the Silent Hill 2 remake has been received very positively by newcomers and long-time fans alike. This success could pave the way for more remakes in the future, as Bloober Team’s director has confirmed that the developer is “always open” to more Silent Hill.

Bloober Team is “open” to more Silent Hill

Following the announcement of the upcoming original IP Cronos: The New Dawn, Bloober Team director and designer Wojciech Piejko was asked by IGN if the studio would be interested in making more Silent Hill remakes or a brand new game in the series is completely original to Bloober.

In response, Piejko said that he thinks Bloober is “always open” to taking opportunities that it likes and finds interesting, noting that there are certain opportunities, such as the redesign of Silent Hill 2 that you simply have to “use”. Finally, Piejko says that he believes anything is possible, which should provide hope for those who want to see more Silent Hill in the future.

I think we are always open. If we like the opportunity, we will take it. There are opportunities that you have to take advantage of. Like Silent Hill 2, you can recreate the legend. So yes, I believe anything is possible. – Wojciech Piejko

While Piejko and Bloober seem very happy to work on the Silent Hill series in the future (even if the statement is a bit general to take too much to heart), it’s worth noting that the decision ultimately rests with Konami becomes. Who hasn’t said anything about more remakes or games with Bloober? However, considering how well the Silent Hill 2 remake did, it seems very likely that there will be interest.
