Top-ranked Texas football welcomes the SEC’s youngest standard-bearer on Saturday when No. 4 Georgia visits Royal-Memorial for the first time since 1958.

Texas (6-0, 2-0 SEC) and Georgia (5-1, 2-1) entered the season as favorites for the national championship and both still have good chances for one of the twelve spots in college football. The game, which begins at 6:30 p.m., attracted an appearance from the College GameDay crew.

We’re asking Texas three important questions before the game against the Bulldogs and will answer them after the game.

How will the Longhorns fare against an elite quarterback?

Question before the game: Georgia quarterback Carson Beck, one of the preseason Heisman favorites, has thrown for 1,818 yards and 15 touchdowns with five interceptions on a 67.9% pass rate this season. His QB rating of 79.7 ranks 19th nationally, and he is coming off his most productive game of the season with 459 yards on 36 of 48 passing, three touchdowns and two interceptions in a 41-31 win over Mississippi State.

The Longhorns have taken on a litany of quarterbacks that include two true freshmen in Michael Hawkins Jr. of Oklahoma and Michael Van Buren Jr. of Mississippi State, fellow sophomores General Booty of ULM and Brayden Fowler-Nicolosi of Colorado State , a full-fledged freshman quarterback. Time starter in UTSA’s Owen McCown and a quarterback who is now on the bench in Michigan’s Davis Warren.

Texas ranks second nationally with 126 yards allowed per game, but Beck offers the biggest challenge of the season.

Will the Texas defensive line neutralize Georgia’s offensive front?

Question before the game: The voting committee for the Joe Moore Award, which will honor the best offensive line in the country, did not have Georgia, along with Texas and 21 other teams, on its midseason honor roll. But don’t think that omissions are a sign of weakness; The Bulldogs have four players on offense who have played at least four collegiate seasons, and there is a possibility that All-American guard Tate Ratledge returns from ankle surgery he underwent after a Week 3 game against Kentucky had contracted.

The line pushes Georgia to 452 yards per game, ranking 27th nationally. The best offense Texas has seen so far this season? UTSA, which ranks 68th with 396.5 yards per game. Texas tackles Vernon Broughton and Alfred Collins must keep up inside, and a pass rush led by Colin Simmons and Barryn Sorrell must make Beck uncomfortable.

Answer after the game: We will give an answer after the game.

Can Texas avoid another slow start on offense?

Question before the game: To Oklahoma’s credit, the Sooner defense was successful in the Cotton Bowl last week, holding Texas to eight total yards on nine snaps with one interception and two punts on the Longhorns’ first three drives. Georgia and Beck have much more offensive power than Oklahoma and will likely turn short fields into more than three points on three straight possessions.
