What are you playing this weekend? (October 19)

I’ll be playing through a game this weekend primarily to review it. So keep an eye out for this game next week. However, if I find time for something else, I’ll probably go back to Zelda: Oracle of Seasons. I started it before Echoes of Wisdom and had a wonderful time, so it only feels right to finish it while on a top-down Zelda kick.

After reviewing Killing Time: Resurrected alongside RetroRealms: Ash vs Evil Dead and Halloween, I just want to keep playing them. This year has been absolutely fantastic for retro revivals and homages, and the spooky vibes of all three of these games fit in quite well with the upcoming Halloween festivities.

I played through Silent Hill 2 for the first time on the PS5. I’m at the Lakeside Hotel and it’s just been a wonderful experience so far. I can’t wait to see how it ends before I get back on track for another run.

I kind of gave up on Echoes of Wisdom after reaching Lord Jabu-Jabu, feeling like they should have called it “Echoes of Bed” because I use that particular item to solve puzzles so much… but A few friends of mine convinced me to get back into it. It’s not the best Zelda game – it’s not even the best Grezzo game – but I try to love it for what it is and not what it isn’t.

I also played a lot of Core Keeper. It definitely becomes an inventory management puzzle in the mid to late game, but I’m having a blast with it! I also looked into Hello Kitty Island Adventure before its release on the Switch. This is probably a mistake because when it comes out next year I’ll have to start from scratch, but I’m surprised at how much I’m enjoying it!

Oh, and I downloaded Pikmin Bloom. Late to the party, I know…

This week I want to finish Echoes of Wisdom and move on to something else – GOTY is getting closer and shaking waves into my water cup on the NL dash! The recent announcement of the sequel to Alien: Isolation makes me want to sit down and actually play the game I bought on sale a long time ago, and I’m only a third of the way through Blasphemous 2 (maybe)… but who already have time for games? that were not released in 2024!? Once I save Hyrule, there will be a showdown between Natsu-Mon and Shogun.

For me, it’s back to the jazzy streets of Tokyo this time when I return to Persona 5 Royal. After about 30 hours I got distracted and thought I had lost track, but it was surprisingly easy to get back into the rhythm. In the meantime, some “parenting time” will be spent playing Another Code R: A Journey into Lost Memories. It was great to play with the kids as it is very relaxed and the puzzles are easy to complete. All in all, a pretty relaxing game – don’t be tempted by any Halloween horror games yet!

This weekend I wanted to sit down with something scary in the lead up to Halloween! No, I don’t mean The Walking Dead: Destinies – that’s a different kind of horror. Rather, I’ll turn on Luigi’s Mansion 3, spread candles around the room, hold a seance and vacuum up a few ghouls.

October is my favorite time of year, and during spooky season I generally play horror-themed games and watch the scariest movies I can find. This weekend I’ll be looking for alternate endings in Faith: The Unholy Trinity, an indie retro horror gem that I recently reviewed for Nintendo Life.

I also plan on firing up my 3DS for a new playthrough of Luigi’s Mansion, which I unfortunately never finished. The exception to the horror rule will be The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom, which I’m still working on. The echo mechanics are brilliant and I love the mix of top-down Zelda dungeons and the free creativity of Zelda in the open world.

The old day of my birth is coming up this weekend, so I’ll be meeting up with some friends for what I’m sure will be a very warm and swear-free round of Mario Party shenanigans. Multiplayer gaming with friends, let alone couch multiplayer, is an extremely rare treat for me these days.

So it’s hard for me to justify picking it up Super Mario Party Jamboree in case I just booted up my respective copies of Super Mario Party And Mario Party Superstars a few times since its release. Ah, who knows – the new one looks great and this might be the only chance I get to play with friends for a long time, so maybe I’ll make it a little gift to myself.

Good things ahead Abathor, TRANSFORMERS: Galactic Trials, Bloodless, conscript and the wonderfully nostalgic UFO Robo Grendizer: The Festival of Wolves. Although I don’t have any friends to play with, the single player portion of Super Mario Party Jamboree turns out to be quite solid. We will continue progress on Bakeru, but a new operation has arrived Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine II and the emperor demands what is due to him.

Game of the week is Neva. To surpass GRIS is no easy task, but from what I’ve played so far, this is another work of art driven by the Berlin soundtrack and incredible art direction. Watch the wolf grow!

We have this planned for the weekend, but what about you? Let us know which games you’d like to see released in the next few days in the poll below.
