Alexa Chung and Iris Law just brought back the cute duffle coat trend

Just before winter hits in full force, Alexa Chung and Iris Law turned me on to the cute coat trend I almost forgot about. Both models have designed cute duffle coats that Paddington Bear himself would adore. The two models made me dig through my wardrobe to reconsider the coat trend I lived a decade ago.

The design is characterized by its toggle closures, large hood and patch pockets and has been around for decades. The trend, which fell out of fashion throughout the century, regained popularity in the ’50s and ’60s and only in the 2010s.

In a rich navy hue, Chung chose a style with three toggles and two oversized pockets. Over a blue shirt and a cozy green knit, the presenter wore an outfit reminiscent of her 2000s style roots. She wore her coat neatly closed and a bouquet of flowers in her clutch.

Law also revived the forgotten coat trend and this week also devoted himself to styling the jacket. Without hood details or oversized pockets, Law’s coat featured the distinctive toggle closures the trendy coat is famous for. Law wore it with retro sunglasses and a thick elastic headband, and used playful accessories to make the pretty coat trend feel relaxed and suitable for everyday wear.

Heading back into the mainstream, we spotted the duffle coat trend popping back up on the runways this fall/winter. In Victoria Beckham’s Fall/Winter 2024 collection, the designer sent oversized styles and slim-fitting jackets down the runway, paired with voluminous pants and oversized accessories.
