PITTSFIELD— In honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month in October, Sebasticook Valley Federal Credit Union raises money through pink ribbon sales to support a Maine nonprofit, Sarah’s House of Maine. This provides a free home away from home for cancer patients undergoing treatment.

Throughout the month, employees also participate in a “pink-out” dress-down week. According to a news release, the credit union was inspired by its employee, survivor Amy Lucas, who returned to work at the credit union two years ago after battling breast cancer.

Sarah’s House was founded by Sarah Robinson of Old Town and Dexter, who, before her death in December 2011, used her own cancer journey to create a safe place for others undergoing cancer treatment.
