MSP Soldier rescues 11-year-old dog trapped in hole

WATERVLIET TOWNSHIP, Mich. – An 11-year-old dog is safe after becoming trapped in a hole in Watervliet Township last week.

Michigan State Police (MSP) said Trooper Justin Van Nuil responded to Orchard Drive on October 10 after reports of a dog becoming trapped in a hole in a gas line. The hole was estimated to be five to six feet deep.

The dog, named Sophie, and her owner were out for a walk when she accidentally fell into the hole, explains MSP.

We’re told the officer, with the owner’s help, used a clutch to safely free her.

“Our ultimate goal is to protect and serve the entire community, be it our beloved residents or their precious furry family members,” writes MSP. “Very grateful for Tpr. Thanks to Van Nuil’s efforts, they were able to complete their usual nighttime walk in peace. Hopefully this story and video brightens your day as much as it did mine.”
