30 coaches wanted this underrated Patriots star to become a free agent

New England Patriots special teams coach Jeremy Springer said 30 other special teams coaches around the league texted him after learning of Brenden Schooler’s contract extension.

The defensive back and standout special teamer signed a three-year, $9 million contract extension with the Patriots last week. According to Springer, the other coaches claimed they would have been interested in Schooler if he had hit the open market.

Schooler was named to the 2022 PFWA All-Rookie Team. Since his first NFL season, he has continued to grow and improve with 32 total tackles and four fumble recoveries in 38 games played.

He was a valuable member of the Patriots’ special teams unit, and nearly every special teams coach, including Springer, has acknowledged that in some way.

The Patriots have made a point of re-signing their in-house talent during the offseason and throughout the regular season. Schooler might be the most underrated addition to the group.
