New iPhone 17 Air leak reveals details on screen size, cameras, chip and more

With the iPhone 16 launch over, the rumor mill about next year’s iPhone 17 series is picking up steam again. However, given the dirt and murky tipster waters, it looks like we’re about to get more of the same, which could be interpreted as confirmation of leaks that have already been published.

Analyst Jeff Pu of Haitong International published a research note seen by Apple Insider outlining details about the iPhone 17 Air (or Slim) and possible features of the iPhone 17 Pro models.

Pu’s note seems to confirm rumors he’s already posted about the iPhone 17 lineup, but there are a few improvements.

iPhone 17 Air / Slim

The iPhone 17 Air or Slim will reportedly have a 6.6-inch display and will replace the Plus model in the range. Something we already knew.

According to Pu, it is powered by a 3nm A19 chip, similar to the A18 Pro in the iPhone 16 Pro models. This appears to confirm that the rumored 2nm chip is moving to the iPhone 18, as reported earlier this week.

Additionally, he reiterated that the Slim will have 8GB of RAM, which is consistent with his notes in May.

In order to appear not only ultra-thin but also lighter, Pu has suggested that the Slim be made from aluminum, similar to the existing Plus model.

For the cameras, he has suggested that there will be a single 48MP rear sensor and a 24MP front camera with integrated Face ID.

The note vaguely claims that the iPhone 17 Slim will have an “all-new design,” but what that means wasn’t made clear.

iPhone 17 Pro models

Apparently MacRumors also had access to Pooh’s research note and extracted various information, most notably regarding next year’s iPhone 17 Pro phones.

In her reading, Pu reiterated previous claims that the Pro and Pro Max will feature a 48MP telephoto rear camera and a 24MP front camera. Currently, the Pro models have 12MP versions of both cameras.

He assumes that the Pro models will finally make the jump to 12 GB of RAM, which he had already claimed in May.

Apparently Pu assumes that the iPhone 17 Pro Max will have a “severely narrowed dynamic island,” which he attributes to a smaller metal bezel for Face ID. How much smaller it is hasn’t been revealed, but it would be the first change on the island since the iPhone 14 Pro models.

He apparently reiterated his earlier claim that the Pro and Pro Max will retain the 6.3-inch and 6.9-inch display sizes introduced on the iPhone 16 versions.

Finally, he has claimed that Apple will not split the chips again and will continue to use the same family of A19 chips for each iPhone 17 model, similar to how the entire iPhone 16 lineup this year used a form of the A18 system. on-chip contains.

It should be noted that, despite being prolific, Pu has a bit of a track record in predicting Apple’s future moves. However, the latest reports from him seem to be in line with similar rumors from closer Apple whisperers like Mark Gurman and analyst Ming-Chi Kuo.
