Xbox Series X/S player surprised with free game – Xbox

This new generation upgrade is now available for download

Certain Xbox Series X/S users have been surprised with a nice free game upgrade.

You may remember a title with the name Darksiders II.

The game originally released in 2012 on PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and PC with a remaster that landed on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One three years later.

This version remains playable on PS5 and Xbox Series X/S due to backwards compatibility, but users of those consoles were recently treated to a new generation upgrade.

Revealed last month by THQ Nordic, Darksiders II: Deathinitive Edition is now available on the consoles mentioned above.

Owners of the Xbox One and PS4 versions of the game can download this upgrade for free.

ICYMI: Dragon Age: The Veil Guardian is scheduled to launch at the end of this month. Check out the game in action below.

The Deathinitive Edition features tons of new bells and whistles, including 4K resolution, ray tracing, improved loading times, and improved lighting and shadows.

While the free upgrade was announced last month, it only became available for download yesterday, October 15th.

If you don’t own the game yet, you can of course also purchase the free upgrade Deathinitive Edition – which will set you back £23.99.

Fans seem pretty excited about this offer.

“I have NOTHING BUT ABSOLUTE RESPECT for developers who treat their games with such love. Just awesome,” wrote Reddit user CryoSage.

“Damn. I wish I had picked it [it] has been on sale for some time,” added atko850.

It’s nice to see developers offering free upgrades like this.

I can completely understand the typical $10 upgrade paths we see and for big mainstream games that makes sense.

But it’s also nice to see mid-range games offering this kind of update as an already included benefit.
