Sixth Kingston Design Showhouse unveiled

Design enthusiasts looking to explore the Hudson Valley can find some interior design inspiration at the sixth annual Kingston Design Showhouse. Eleven designers took on the rooms of an early 19th-century home, transforming empty spaces into eclectic interiors with ornate accents.

The fundraiser opened to the public last week and runs until October 27th. It is organized by Kingston Design Connection, a network for regional creatives founded by designer Maryline Damour of Damour Drake. This year’s Showhouse is the fifth for the organization. Previous versions have included a quaint mansion, a modest brick home and a 20th-century Queen Anne.

Participating designers this year include Auz Design Studio, Casolare, Damour Drake, Krishan Fitzpatrick, Hendley & Co., KD Reid, NJA Interiors, Poppy Interiors, Studio Hinterland, Shana Luther Interiors and Zimmer Gardens. While the interiors now shine with color and texture, the garden has not been neglected. New planting beds wind gracefully in front of the house, and seating areas and sculptures are scattered throughout the front and back yards.

Visitors this year will have to drive outside of Kingston to Stone Ridge to find accommodation. Located approximately 13 miles southwest of Kingston, the Ulster County hamlet has a significant National Register-listed historic district. The Main Street Historic District includes the selected property at 3714 Main Street. The nomination gives an estimated construction date for the five-bay wide center hall house in the 1840s.

This year’s edition continues the organization’s focus on housing and affordability through a partnership with the Ulster County Habitat for Humanity. This spring, a newly constructed Habitat home was used for a second annual Habitat home focused on using goods from the Habitat ReStore and raising awareness and funds for the construction of Habitat homes. The two organizations also launched a home improvement series with speakers on topics ranging from gardening to heating and cooling your home.
