For the uninitiated, the 2025 Corvette ZR1 is full of surprises even when taking a look at the spec sheet. Corvettes have always been fast cars, and the ZR1 has a long history of offering the kind of technology and performance that strikes fear into owners of more exotic European supercars.



But when the new ZR1 was introduced in July 2024, the automotive world caused a stir. This was a Corvette covered in carbon fiber tinsel and aerodynamic features that could propel the stunning 1,064 horsepower ZR1 to a top speed of 233 miles per hour at 8,000 rpm.

The ZR1 was no longer headed to the supercar establishment – ​​it was deep into million-dollar hypercar territory. It’s handy that the ZR1 only costs $180,000 – a fraction of the cost of many cars with this kind of value.

However, after the dust settled around the ZR1’s arrival, there were a few subtle Easter eggs that not many people would have noticed at launch. These nods to the Corvette’s past, present and future were hidden between exotic materials and aggressive vents.

Senior Chief Engineer Tadge Juechter will always be looking over your shoulder

It’s a fitting tribute to the man who spent 47 years at General Motors – 31 of them with Corvette – that his image will always be in the background of every ZR1. The new Super Corvette celebrates the career of Corvette chief engineer Tadge Juechter, who joined the Corvette program back in 1993, with a special graphic on the rear window of the ZR1 coupe.

Tadge Juechter is leaving GM after a long career

Tadge Juechter retired from General Motors in the summer of 2024 after nearly half a century, leaving behind as his legacy the most powerful V8 ever produced in America by an automaker. Along with 1,064 horsepower, the 5.5-liter twin-turbocharged DOHC flat-crank V8 engine, dubbed LT7, produces 828 lb-ft of torque.

GM President Mark Reuss said of Juechter’s contributions to the Corvette: “Tadge made our vehicles and our company better every day he came to work for nearly five decades, and his career culminated in the fastest and most powerful Corvette of them all. Reuss also confirmed that the new graphics will be found on all Corvettes from 2024.

The logo is located on the windshield and front tunnel reinforcement panel under every Corvette Stingray, Z06, E-Ray and ZR1. Reuss added: “ZR1 and all subsequent Corvettes will bear this symbol to commemorate his immense contributions and celebrate his legacy forever.”

The Tadje Jeuchter graphic isn’t the only hidden Easter egg logo on the ZR1 Corvette. The Corvette’s 5.5-liter LT7 V8 starts with the same architecture as the Z06’s LT6, which Chevrolet says happens to be the most powerful naturally aspirated production V8 ever at 670 horsepower, and takes it to an astronomical level with twin turbochargers level and leaves other super sports cars in the dust.

The LT6 is called the “Gemini V8” in reference to NASA’s Project Gemini missions in the 1960s and the fact that astronauts drove corvettes during that time. In fact, the Z06 features no fewer than 54 rocket badges hidden around the engine by GM engineers to represent the codename “Gemini.”

Due to the company’s extensive work and reputation with the NTT INDYCAR SERIES, BorgWarner was selected to supply the turbochargers for the 2025 ZR1. The turbochargers include a forged, milled 76 mm compressor wheel with a drilled housing and a 67 mm turbine wheel in a mono-scroll turbine housing and are the largest production twin turbochargers for passenger cars on the market to date, according to BorgWarner.


Designed and manufactured in the USA, these turbochargers also feature an electronically actuated wastegate system that allows for General Motors anti-lag calibration. As a final touch, the turbochargers receive a small Gemini rocket logo on the front, symbolizing the ultimate evolution of the LT6 engine.

The ZR1 is a forward-thinking design with the power and speed to make it a contender for the world’s fastest hypercars. However, in addition to the legendary engineers and rockets of the 1960s, there are also other references to the past. For example, new colors are being introduced for the ZR1 such as Competition Yellow, Hysteria Purple and Sebring Orange – the latter a reference to a fan-favorite color of the previous C7 generation ZR1.


Perhaps the most notable innovation from the past is the return of the iconic split window at the back. This design element was last seen on the great C2 Corvette of the ’60s and was quietly shown off on the Corvette Z06 GT3.R race car. The split window on the ZR1 is not just for nostalgia, but the carbon fiber “backbone” also removes heat from the engine compartment.

Phil Zak, Executive Design Director at Chevrolet, explains: “We didn’t make this decision lightly, we know this is a beloved element from Corvette’s history.” This element not only offers function, but we were also able to incorporate passionate design into it incorporate the form and do so in a way that pays tribute to Corvette’s history. “ZR1 seemed like the right time to bring back the split window.”

Transforming the ZR1 into a track day weapon, the ZTK performance package features a high-downforce rear wing, a high Gurney lip on the hood and front dive planes, all made from woven carbon fiber.

The ZR1 also gets stiffer springs and features Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 R tires for improved road holding, as well as underbody strips for more front downforce. These features have been refined, says Chevrolet, including the Nürburgring, Road Atlanta and Virginia International Raceway.
