Sigh, with the summer blockbusters long behind us, it’s time to reckon with the spooky fall release calendar. All these new indie films and awards contenders are trying to drive us crazy with their ever-changing schedules. What do you mean? Anora is only just hitting limited theaters, although it seems like everyone with a Letterboxd has already seen it? That said, the schedules are a lot to keep to. This week, We live in time is being expanded into a full-length release where we can all revel in a relationship between Florence Pugh and Andrew Garfield that is more akin to romantic drama than romantic comedy. Here are the rest of this week’s tips!

If you’ve seen the internet freaking out over Andrew Garfield and Florence Pugh, this movie is why. The two play Tobias and Almut, a couple who come together after Almut accidentally hits Tobias with her car. The sticky, bittersweet drama tells their love story in a non-linear fashion as the two face high highs and devastating lows.

➼ Branded tissues were distributed in advance during the promotion of this film, so… get ready.

Instead of a serial killer trapped in a concert, Smile 2 is about a demon that sinks its claws into a pop star (played by Naomi Scott) who is looking for a comeback. If you ask me, I would rather be there Catch concert as that Smile 2 concert, considering its pop star meets a parasitic demonic creature that is passed on to others with death and a smile. But you all love a good scare.

Bill Lawrence’s drama about therapy trying to set better relationship boundaries reminds us once again that Harrison Ford is a national treasure that must be protected at all costs. I’m not sure you’ve lived until you’ve seen Ford sing “Your Love” from Outfield, which he does in the first episode of this season. –Jen Chaney

➼ A rare move for streamers, shrinkage has already been renewed for a third season!

David Tennant and Aidan Turner, wearing suits with very large lapels, shout loudly to a terrific cast of character actors about high-stakes dramas in the world of independent British television in the 1980s. Everyone speaks very quickly, and any awkward contemporary resonances with ambitious media moguls are muffled by the fluorescent glow of ’80s television lighting. –Kathryn VanArendonk

One of the best parts of the holiday season is Peanuts Special offers. It’s been about four years since the switch from cable TV to Apple TV+, which is a little depressing. However, if you want to keep traditions alive, Apple TV+ is for you It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown Coming out from behind the paywall for two days this weekend (October 19-20), you can watch it for free. We are serious. This isn’t a situation where Lucy pulls the football away from you.

➼ Simon Abrams wrote this It’s the Great Pumpkin is an “immortal installment because it contains some of the very best dialogue,” which is certainly true, but where did he place it on his best list? Peanuts Special offers?

After making its way to Mubi last month, the film is from filmmaker Tarsem Singh The autumn is getting another chance in theaters, so check back to see if it’s “not nearly as bad as advertised.” To read more of Singh’s interview, click here.

➼ Someone must have lit the Black Flame Candle because that Hocus pocus Witches are back in cinemas.

Fede Alvarez’s greatest hits Foreigner The film is fun enough for a little horror movie evening. There’s no Ripley, but plenty of facehuggers as a group of friends investigate an abandoned spaceship (always a great idea in these films) and reap the consequences.

➼ More horror awaits you this weekend from the latest episode of Ti West X films, MaXXXine to Max to Colm McCarthy’s interpretation of the mythical figure Bagman on digital platforms.
