Tyrese Maxey receives the NBA Cares Community Assist Award

Tyrese Maxey receives the NBA Cares Community Assist Award

Add another award to the one and only’s trophy shelf, Tyrese Maxey. The 2023-24 NBA Most Improved Player award winner has had a breakthrough lately on the basketball court for the Philadelphia 76ers, but has also shown brilliance off the court.

The NBA awarded Maxey the NBA Cares Bob Lanier Community Assist Award this offseason. This is the second time Maxey has won the award, after 2022. He becomes only the third player in 76ers franchise history to win the award more than once.

Maxey earned the honor through his tremendous generosity to the children of Philadelphia and his home state of Texas. This summer he hosted a free basketball camp in Philly for kids ages 7 to 12, and the next weekend he hosted a similar camp in Dallas that also included a golf clinic.

Oh, and he’s also committed to donating $1 million to youth programs in Philadelphia.

“It is a great honor to receive the NBA Cares Community Assist Award for the offseason. “I am grateful to be in a position to make a difference in the lives of youth in the Philadelphia and Dallas area,” said Maxey. “I believe in the power of education and sport to transform lives and am committed to supporting our youth in achieving their dreams. Thank you to the NBA for this recognition and to everyone who has supported the Tyrese Maxey Foundation along this journey.”

In addition to a trophy, the NBA will donate $10,000 to the Tyrese Maxey Foundation. Then you know you’ve made it when you have your own foundation.

The 76ers will honor the former Kentucky guard with the Community Assist Award on the team’s opening night on Oct. 23.
