Brandeis Athletics is hosting Kids In Sports Day with Stanley Elementary School

WALTHAM, Mass. – On Friday, October 11, the Brandeis Department of Athletics, in collaboration with the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee, hosted Kids in Sports Day on the Brandeis University campus. More than 150 children from nearby Stanley Elementary School, part of the Waltham Public School District, visited the Gosman Sports Center to learn about college-level athletics.

“Brandeis Athletics is proud to inspire the next generation through the joy of sports and education. Events like Kids in Sports Day demonstrate the power of teamwork, healthy habits and big dreams – values that extend far beyond the field,” noted Jessica Chapin, Director of Athletics.

Upon arrival, elementary students in grades 3-5 split into groups and visited seven different stations organized by Brandeis athletes and staff. The children learned about the student-athlete experience, including the importance of attending college and the benefits of playing sports in college. The athletes also discussed the benefits of a healthy lifestyle, including the effects of proper fitness and nutrition.

After listening to and asking questions from the student-athletes and volunteer athletes, the children were able to watch sports demonstrations and try out a variety of sports, including softball, baseball, basketball, track and field, tennis, fencing and volleyball.

To cap off the day, Brandeis student-athletes joined Stanley Elementary School students for lunch outside at Gordon Field to cheer on the women’s soccer team against No. 1 Washington University in St. Louis.

The department intends to continue the initiative and partnership with Stanley Elementary into the future.
