Developers of the Future Legends Sports Complex in Windsor are filing for bankruptcy

WINDSOR, Colo. – There are more problems ahead for the Future Legends Sports Complex. The developers of the massive Windsor sports facility have filed for bankruptcy, according to court documents.

Now families are wondering if they need to find a new place to practice and play.

Spending time at the baseball fields is a family affair for Kirk Gautier.

“It’s a great place for us, an opportunity to come together and watch him grow as he continues to improve his baseball skills,” said Gautier, who watched his grandson play baseball Thursday night.

But now the families of the Windsor complex fear its future could be in limbo after its developers filed for bankruptcy this week.

The Future Legends complex provides fields for future stars in northern Colorado

Court documents were filed Tuesday in U.S. Bankruptcy Court in Nevada. According to Jeff Katoksy, who serves as managing member of Future Legends 5 LLC. listed, nearly $10.5 million is owed to various companies.

“Every time we’ve been here it’s a crowded complex… Aren’t they generating enough revenue to keep the fields going?” Gautier asked.

It wasn’t always a dream field for the property that would attract sports teams from all over the country. In September, a Weld County judge placed the facility into receivership after millions of dollars in loans were not repaid.

“The hope is that they find a way to keep it together,” Gautier said.

Denver7 took the community’s concerns to Windsor City Manager Shane Hale.

“What I imagined is exactly what I imagine one day,” Hale said. “I think at some point it will realize its dream.”

When asked what concerns they have about the bankruptcy filing, Hale responded, “Honestly, I don’t know enough about the bankruptcy filing to answer that question.”

Hale insisted that the city not abandon the project and maintain constant communication with the complex’s developer.

“We would like to maintain our program locally, and so far no one has told us that this is not possible,” Hale said.

As families wait for answers, Gautier is hopeful the complex that launched youth sports in northern Colorado has a future.

“The goal may be to attract more people in the summer, have more tournaments here and generate some revenue to redevelop this place,” Gautier said.
