3 keys for Georgia against No. 1 Texas

The biggest game of the year for Georgian football is just around the corner. The Bulldogs have a chance to make up for their loss to Alabama earlier this season by beating a stronger team in No. 1 Texas on the road.

Kirby Smart and his team will have their hands full, but I’m confident they can pull it off. And to do just that, here are my three keys to help Georgia pull off an upset against Texas on Saturday.

Texas is one of the few teams in the country that is extremely effective in both the running game and the passing game. If the Longhorns are able to move the ball efficiently both through the air and on the ground, then I don’t think Georgia will have a chance.

So they have to decide whether they want to take away the running game or the passing game from the Longhorns.

The Longhorns’ passing attack ranks 11th nationally, while their running game ranks just 40th. Based on that alone, I think it would be wise to try to stop the passing game.

A particular focus on slowing down the passing game will really help take the pressure off Georgia’s secondary, which has been a weakness all season. Therefore, I think UGA needs to combine timely attacks with the use of additional players in coverage to confuse Quinn Ewers and the Texas receivers.

Keeping them on their toes like this makes it difficult to get any momentum through the air. All Georgia has to hope for then is that it doesn’t allow Texas to overrun the UGA defense instead.
