Nice weather to end the week, but no sign of rain to counteract the drought until the weekend

LAKE CHARLES, La. (KPLC) – Temperatures in SWLA will remain pleasant but will gradually warm through the weekend.

Mostly sunny skies with some mixed cloud cover are expected to end the week. High temperatures are expected to rise back to the mid to upper 70s in some places on Friday. However, moisture return will be very slow without the breeze turning further south. Of course, this means that there is virtually no chance of rain even with occasional cloudiness, so it’s perfect for all outdoor plans!

First alarm forecast(KPLC)

The dry conditions could last well into next week. That’s good for outdoor plans this weekend, which include Chuck Fest in downtown Lake Charles this Saturday.

The disadvantage of the dry weather remains the lack of rain, which is still missing in the 10-day forecast. Still be very careful when doing outdoor activities and it is still a good idea not to burn yourself. With still no rain in sight, much of SWLA has been upgraded to drought level 2/4 (severe) on the U.S. Drought Monitor. An extension or worsening of the moderate drought we are in is entirely possible in the next update next Thursday. Burn bans now include Calcasieu, Jeff Davis, Allen, Beauregard and Vernon parishes.

There are a few areas in the tropics where development is being observed, but nothing that is overly affecting SWLA or even the Gulf. The NHC sees the possibility of a short-lived tropical storm developing in the western Caribbean this weekend. Even if something does form, any storm would likely sink into Central America or Mexico. Another wave is likely to form near the Leeward Islands over the next few days, but higher elevation winds are expected to have little impact on the system next week. The rest of the basin is calm and no development is expected over the next week.
