In his book, which the Oscar winner shared in 2011, he began “getting warnings that my accountant at the time, a man with many high-profile clients, was not to be trusted.”

After the accountant mismanages his finances and overspends, Al says he “went broke.”

“In this business, if you make $10 million for a movie, it’s not $10 million. Because according to the lawyers, the agents, the publicist and the government, it’s not $10 million, it’s four and a half in your pocket,” he wrote. “But you live above it because you are very popular. And so you lose it. It’s very strange how it happens. The more money you make, the less you have.”

“The kind of money I spent and where it went was just a crazy losing montage. …And I thought: It’s easy. It’s clear. I just know that. Time stopped. I’m screwed,” Al added.

For this reason, Al was forced to change his perspective on taking on roles and started taking on anything that offered a big paycheck, including Jack and Jill with Adam Sandler And Katie Holmes.

Jack and Jill was the first film I made after losing my money. Honestly, I did it because I had nothing else,” said the actor. “Adam Sandler wanted me and they paid me a lot for it. So I did it and it helped. I love AdamWorking with him was wonderful and he has become a dear friend. Plus he’s just a great actor and a damn good guy.”

The Godfather Star also noted that it was still difficult to find roles after that as he was “not a young guy.”

“I didn’t plan on making as much money acting in films as I did before,” he wrote. “The big paydays I was used to just weren’t there anymore. The pendulum had swung and I was finding it increasingly difficult to find pieces for myself.”

Below Jack and Jill, Al later appeared in films such as Get up, people, Misconduct, Once upon a time… in Hollywood, The Irishman, House of Gucciand the TV series hunter. He also has a few projects in the works.
