Infosys reverses the trend and hires 2,465 people in the second quarter

Infosys’ headcount rose by 2,456 in the September quarter after six consecutive quarters of decline. This comes at a time when the company has started allowing hiring at all levels, including freshers. In FY25, Infosys plans to hire about 15,000-20,000 freshers after a year of slowdown in hiring.

Total headcount was 317,788 in the second quarter, down from 328,764 in the same period last year. The number of employees fell by 10,976 compared to the previous year. The attrition rate for the quarter increased 12.9 percent on a trailing 12-month basis, compared to 12.7 percent in the June quarter.

“At the end of the quarter, headcount stood at 3,17,000, returning to positive sequential growth after six quarters of decline, with net additions of 2,500 employees. The utilization rate including training increased 60 basis points to 85.9%. Q2 LTM fluctuation increased 20 basis points to 12.9%. “We are on track to add 15,000 to 20,000 freshmen in FY25,” management said during the analyst briefing.

Infosys is a leader in women’s workforce participation. According to second-quarter data, Infosys has 39 percent female employees.

LTIMindtree is not far behind. According to CEO Debashish Chatterjee, with continued business momentum in key verticals and significant hiring in the second quarter, including freshers, we are well positioned as we enter the second half of the fiscal year. The IT company had 84,438 employees at the end of the quarter, while adding 2,504 employees during the reporting period.

Rival Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) hired 5,726 employees and HCL Tech lost 780 employees.

HCL Tech hired around 2,932 freshers in Q2 and plans to hire 10,000 freshers in FY25.

Ramachandran Sundararajan, Chief People Officer, HCL Tech: “There has been a slight decline in headcount this quarter. But compared to last year, after normalizing after the divestiture last quarter, our headcount is still growing. We are continuing with our refresh.” Campus programs typically continue to run for the entire year and then review each quarter based on demand movements.

“In fiscal year 2026, based on current hiring numbers, I think the focus will be on campus specialization and we won’t just rely on raw numbers. These plans are being finalized, they will be implemented this quarter,” he added.
