The Lincoln community gathers for the first annual Missing Persons Day in Nebraska

LINCOLN, Neb. (KOLN) – Dozens of people with missing loved ones from across the state and county gathered at First Christian Church for a memorial ceremony for Nebraska’s first annual Missing Persons Day.

Thursday’s morning service consisted of tearful testimony, and a path leading up to the pulpit commemorating the hundreds of missing people who never came home.

Family members and friends of missing loved ones told 10/11 News they found comfort in each other’s company and were able to process their shared grief.

“I can’t imagine dying without an answer, but it’s very encouraging to know that we all share the same things here. We all have the same grief. You know, we all have the same questions,” said Lonnie Goodrich, whose son has been missing for almost a year.

Donna Knebel said her daughter has been missing for 15 years.

“You will constantly grieve because you don’t know until you have a definitive answer. There is no closure. “It’s like falling into a bottomless pit,” Knebel said.

Organizers said a big part of the fight is getting the word out and making sure people know who is missing and what they look like.
