Cocktail Thursday: Texas Edition – Dawg Sports

Cocktail Thursday: Texas Edition – Dawg Sports

If your Georgia Bulldogs are on their way to being ranked No. 1 in the country and have serious concerns after recent (relatively) disappointing performances, you could probably use a drink.

I can help you with that.

It should come as no surprise that I’m not particularly optimistic about this game. And I’m not alone. The Bulldogs are underdogs in a regular season contest for the first time in years. They face a Texas team that is limited by a few injuries, but is running at full speed offensively and defensively.

We find ourselves in a relatively unfamiliar situation: we have to mentally imagine a scenario in which Georgia triumphs. Normally in a game like this, the assumption is that if the Bulldogs play to their potential, we should win. However, to emerge victorious in Austin, Georgia will need to play four quarters of solid football, something they have failed to do this football season.

It’s a throwback to the Mark Richt era, when Bulldog fans would gather under the tailgate and talk about the things that had to go right for Georgia to win, rather than the things that had to go wrong for Georgia to lose. It was a time where we squinted just right, put our fingers to the changing winds and said, “I don’t know, if we could just go after them early, maybe we could get a quick turnover and a big play here and there.” do.” … maybe we’ll be there in the end.”

It’s not much fun being the underdog. It’s a feeling that many in Bulldog Nation honestly can’t remember. But it is where we are and we have to live with it. If you manage your expectations correctly, you will either get what you already expected or be pleasantly surprised. With that in mind, I don’t expect us to win this game, but if we do, boy hello, will it be hilarious? The chance to take on the top team in the country on their home field in front of a prime-time television audience is the kind of pressure that Kirby considers a privilege.

And what would be the appropriate drink for this high-risk, high-reward situation with the eyes of Texas on us?

The Hornitos down.

It is a variation of the Paloma other Tequila cocktail. In an alternate universe, you and your colleagues meet up at your local Mexican restaurant after work for Paloma night instead of Margarita night. After reading this recipe, that night may be tomorrow night.

Because while the classic margarita and all its variations have become ubiquitous and popular, the margarita’s pink, citrusy cousin, the Paloma, is arguably the better cocktail. It has a bittersweet, lemony flavor and requires only four ingredients, aside from accompaniments. You need:

* Kosher salt

* 5 ounces. Jarritos grapefruit soda (available in most Hispanic supermarket sections, alongside my other favorite Jarritos flavor, guava).

* 2 ounces. Tequila Blanco (I like Hornito’s, but of course there are other varieties too).

* Juice of 1/2 lime

* 1 grapefruit wedge for garnish

* 1 lime wedge.

First, pour the salt onto a small plate. Rub the rim of a Collins glass with the lime wedge, then dip in salt and swirl until coated. Fill a prepared glass with ice. Add grapefruit lemonade, tequila, lime juice and a pinch of salt and stir with a bar spoon. Garnish with the grapefruit wedge. Enjoy responsibly and…

Come on buddy!!!
