New defensive lineman is out for the Georgia-Texas football game

ATHENS – Georgia provided another update on its availability report ahead of Saturday’s game against No. 1 Texas.

On Thursday, Georgia added freshman Joseph Jonah-Ajonye to the report and listed the freshman defensive lineman as out for the game. Jonah-Ajonye is a Texas State native and was a 5-star prospect in the 2024 signing class.

Jonah-Ajonye did not play in Georgia’s last game against Mississippi State. He has 1 tackle in four games this season. Jonah-Ajonye did not play in the loss to Alabama.

Tate Ratledge is still listed as questionable after missing the last three games. Ratledge didn’t wear a cleat against Mississippi State last week and instead wore an ankle brace.

“Yeah, he’s a lot closer. He runs,” Georgia coach Kirby Smart said Saturday. “He’s running on dry land and moving forward. You know, he has custom braces. And we continue to hope that he gets better.”

Georgia has used Micah Morris at right guard the last two games.

Linebacker Smael Mondon, running back Branson Robinson and running back Roderick Robinson are all out. Mondon has missed the last two games with a lower-body injury. Branson Robinson injured his MCL against Mississippi State, while a toe injury sidelined Roderick Robinson all season.

As for Jared Wilson and Jordan Hall, those two are listed as probables. Wilson has missed the last two games with a foot injury. Drew Bobo started in his place.

“Jared was good. Jared has been practicing,” Smart said Tuesday. “Seems to be doing better in the last two days than in previous weeks. That’s good and he proved himself today.”

Hall has yet to play a game this season because he underwent surgery in August.

“Jordan has done more than he has done in the last two weeks. He’s been out there taking reps with us and getting better and better,” Smart said. “Jordan’s life has been a long, hard process. And he has to come to terms with the pain he is in. And sometimes it jumps up and bites him. And you never know, it could happen to him again. And that has kept him from taking on the rep load he would like. But he’s out there today doing more this week than he did last week.”

Jonah-Ajonye’s injury still means Georgia won’t have its full complement of defensive linemen.

But even those healthy enough to play aren’t fully healthy, as Smart laid out this week.

“We’re not injury-free,” Smart said. “Warren (Brinson) is dealing with a combat injury, Jordan is dealing with a combat injury, Mykel is dealing with injuries and Christen (Miller) is dealing with injuries. I mean, he’s not capable of doing the workweek week in and week out, but he’s capable of going out and playing.”

What about Georgia’s football defensive line and the ongoing injury situation?

Hall and Wilson were not listed in the final availability report released last week.

Georgia will face No. 1 Texas on Saturday. The game is scheduled to begin at 7:30 p.m. ET on ABC. For the Longhorns, wide receiver Isaiah Bond was listed as probable.

Availability reports will be published on Friday and 90 minutes before kick-off on Saturday.
