Lucas Paqueta asks FA to investigate ‘misleading’ leaks about gambling allegations

Lucas Paqueta has called on the football association to investigate after claims that information about his gambling allegations was leaked.

The West Ham midfielder, who denied four separate allegations against him by the FA in May, claimed “misleading and inaccurate” reporting had jeopardized his chances of a fair disciplinary hearing.

If the 27-year-old Brazilian international is found guilty, he could face a lengthy ban. One of the charges is that he was booked intentionally “to influence the betting market.”

In a statement posted on

“Some of this information is completely false and appears to undermine my position. I also fear that these articles, while false and misleading, clearly come from a person familiar with the case.

“The FA process is intended to be confidential and is extremely serious for me and my family.

“The continued leaking and publication of inaccurate information in the press now jeopardizes my chance of a fair hearing.”

“I have therefore instructed my lawyers to write to the FA asking them to carry out a thorough investigation into how information about the case, even if inaccurate, comes to the public.”

“I continue to deny the allegations against me and look forward to proving my innocence.”

Paqueta, who was signed from West Ham from Lyon for £36.5 million in August 2022, has appeared in all seven Premier League games this season, scoring two goals.
