Steve Sarkisian is confident the Texas Longhorns are preparing for Georgia

Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian held a press conference Thursday with the No. 5 Georgia Bulldogs, who traveled to Austin to play the Longhorns this Saturday.

For a program like Georgia, Sarkisian emphasized in his press conference how confident he was in his team for how they prepared for the game. When a reporter asked Sarkisian if the first defense should play first offense in practice, which is not common in practice, Sarkisian said the following:

“I think it’s helpful in the sense that we’re doing a lot of good things every week to keep ourselves up to speed with the pace of the game where we need to be.”

Texas’ defense hasn’t had to face an offense like Georgia this year. Carson Beck and the Georgia offense have scored over 30 points in three straight games, with Georgia gaining over 500 total yards on offense against Alabama and over 600 against Mississippi State. Texas has not allowed more than 300 yards of total offense once this year.

This leaves the Texas defense with a very tall task ahead of them, something they haven’t faced all year. So when you practice against a strong offense like Texas’, you can sort of simulate the feeling that the defense will have when they face Georgia.

And Steve Sarkisian believes they’re up to the challenge. He was really impressed with how they trained to prepare for the game:

“The one thing I learned a lot about our team this week is their appreciation for preparation,” Sarkisian said. “When I say that, it’s their belief in the blueprint and the formula for success and that they come to work every day with the mentality of understanding the plan, practicing the way we expect them to, practicing to that standard , and putting yourself in such a position to perform.

Will Texas reach Sarkisian’s level? Only time will tell as the seconds continue to tick away until game time.

Texas currently holds a five-point lead heading into Saturday’s game. Kickoff airs at 6:30 p.m. on ABC.
