Bayle’s opens at The Square in honor of a local college student

Bayle’s, a lounge-style bar created in honor of a former Texas State University student who died in 2022, will open in the Square in late October.

The background

Co-owners Andrew Ray and Sheldon Catley will open the bar in memory of Ray’s friend Bayle Bucceri, who died in a car accident and subsequent fire in a Miami duplex in 2022. Ray and Bucceri met as neighbors at The Junction in 2020, he said. She introduced him to the square’s nightlife.

“I had many fun evenings with her, but when she died, The Square wasn’t the same,” Ray said. “It was a goal to bring them back to The Square.”

Ray has worked in the party and entertainment industry and knew he would open his own business in San Marcos. His desire to create something in memory of Bucceri spurred him on. He said Catley was the first person he called when he spotted an open space next to The Marc nightclub because of his experience in event promotion and real estate.

“Unfortunately I didn’t manage to get to know each other [Bucceri]“But I’ve heard great things and I know she was definitely appreciated by a lot of people,” Catley said. “I wanted to help them as best I could.”

The functions

Ray said Bayle’s will combine all of Bucceri’s favorite themes at The Square. They want it to be a bar for everyone, not just students.

The lounge-style bar will have a rustic, modern design and feature a photo booth, a powder room with a large mirror and monthly cocktail specials such as a Pumpkin Spice Espresso Martini, one of Bucceri’s favorite drinks.

“I think our bar…it’s very polite to the ladies, but anyone can come in and have a great time,” Ray said.

Bayle’s will have a soft opening event in late October. Ray and Catley said they hope to have a grand opening around Halloween.
