Braiding Time, Memory and Water looks at Atlanta’s watersheds – WABE

In collaboration with the forces of nature itself, Core Dance presents two site-specific performances at locations along the Chattahoochee River.

“Braiding Time, Memory and Water” represents the work of Core Dance artistic director Sue Schroeder, composer Felipe Pérez Santiago and conceptual artist Johnathan Keats in considering our watersheds and their natural rhythms. The first performances will take place on October 19th at Powers Island, with another part of the series taking place next spring at Zonalite Park.

Sue Schroder discussed “Braiding Time, Memory and Water” with “City Lights” host Lois Reitzes.

“When researching this project, I was influenced by the actual effect of the river water; It forms a network of rivers as it travels,” Schroeder said.

“Water is truly the memory of all time, it is the same water recycled at different times throughout the lifespan of the planet. There is so much memory in the water and also in the land the water flows through.”

The performance includes a series of small floating installations designed by Johnathan Keats to be released on the river and timed to a composition by Santiago.
