Premier League LIVE: Barcelona and Bayern join Alexander Arnold race, Wilshere leaves Arsenal, Mainoo sidelined for ‘a few weeks’, Paqueta’s statement

“It was hard”

Former Manchester United midfielder Donny van de Beek has spoken about his problems at the club.

Van de Beek spent four years at Old Trafford but things didn’t go well for him, he only played 42 Premier League games.

The Dutchman failed to break into the first team under several coaches and at the same time suffered a serious knee injury.

And now he has spoken to The Athletic about his time at Man United: “I don’t know. I think the start was pretty good.”

“When I played, I think at the beginning of the season, I did well, and for different reasons… I don’t know exactly, but I didn’t play.”

“It’s difficult to get to the core of the painful area, but that’s how it is. I think something like that can happen.”

“In some places it clicks, but sometimes, in other situations, it doesn’t. I think there are other reasons. But it’s also football.”

He continued: “Yes. It was hard. Usually things get better for many players in the second season. But I think it was also a difficult situation.”

“I think the coach [Ole Gunnar Solskjaer] gone, and a new coach [Rald Rangnick] came in and then it’s always chaotic.

“I think it was quite unfortunate because I played a few more games [under Erik ten Hag]especially right before winter, and then I got injured,” he added.

“That wasn’t easy. It was very bad timing. When you start playing a little more, you get the rhythm of everything.”

“But this injury has arrived, you have to restart, you have to move up.”
