What Paul Stanley thinks about the Jane’s Addiction stage battle

KISS legend Paul Stanley has spoken out about the now infamous stage fight between Perry Farrell and Dave Navarro at a Jane’s Addiction show.

On September 13, Farrell attacked Navarro as tensions escalated in the previous days due to the singer’s subpar live performances. Farrell had slurred his speech, sung lyrics to the wrong songs and sung in the wrong places.

The scuffle that broke out backstage after the show was abandoned led to the band canceling their remaining tour dates and going on hiatus.

It’s nothing new in rock music for band members to not get along, but on stage we rarely see these tempers flare up like this. And it doesn’t sit well with Stanley, who recently told it Donkey Star Steve-O on the issues he has with how everything turned out.

As a guest on Steve-O’s Wild Ride! On the podcast, Stanley revealed an important rule that all artists must follow, even in times of disagreement: “You don’t hit.”

“And you don’t bring your problems to the stage,” he continues.

“You leave your ego behind—well, that’s harder,” he assesses, reconsidering as he explains, “But you leave your anger and resentment at the bottom of the stairs.”

That’s something he had to do in KISS as the “Starchild” songs recount: “And we went on stage and had a great time playing and then walked off stage and didn’t talk to each other.”

Stanley says “the audience didn’t deserve this,” referring to the interpersonal issues that play out on stage. “The audience paid. And it goes back to the same philosophy.” [KISS] We’re the band we’ve never seen.

“People get a chance to see you, possibly on a tour. It doesn’t matter if it was last night or the night after – this is their night, and if they see you not interacting with your bandmate, that’s childish shit,” Stanley said, adding without mincing his words: “It’s disrespectful to the people who paid.”
