One of the best new anime romances is eyeing its first film

When it comes to anime, there are few things better than romance. Even the clumsiest heroes like Goku have found love over the years, and that doesn’t even count for real romance series. From Kamisama Kiss to My Dress-Up Darling, there are plenty of clever romance anime on the market, and one of them is eyeing its first feature film.

And which anime will be the recipient of this order? It’s none other than My Love Story with Yamada-kun at Lv999. The successful adaptation has already completed one season and a new website domain suggests that a film for the anime is in the works.

MY LOVE STORY WITH YAMADA-KUN IS A ROM-COM HIT

Over in Japan, sleuths noticed that a new website domain had been registered that was directly linked to “My Love With Yamada-kun.” The domain is “yamada999-movie”, so the name is pretty descriptive. At this point the domain is not yet online, but it has been registered in Japan. So if history tells us anything, those in charge are working behind the scenes on an official announcement.

A domain leak of this type is not uncommon. Numerous anime projects have been leaked through website registries, including One Piece and Dragon Ball. Any internet detective in Japan can search approved domains once this information is made public. And in a recent check, My Love Story With Yamada-kun popped up.

As for this movie, well – the first season of the anime introduced a nice feature. “My Love Story with Yamada-kun” went live in April 2023 and “Madhouse” received great praise for the romantic comedy. We followed college student Akane Kinoshita as she found herself in orbit with Akito Yamada, a quiet professional player about to graduate high school. The two find companionship in each other while dealing with online gaming and puberty. And at the end of the first season, My Love Story With Yamada-kun seals the couple with a sweet confession.

ANIME AND ITS RECENT ROMANTIC RENAISSANCE

With a film in the works, My Love Story With Yamada-kun proves how strong romance is in anime. The genre has been around for decades, but there has been a lull in recent years. However, it seems that the trend has changed since 2020. From the return of Kimi ni Todoke to the release of My Dress-Up Darling, romance anime are on the rise. We even got a remake of Spice and Wolf and the slice-of-life drama has become a contender for Anime of the Year.

With more people watching anime than ever before, it’s important that romance is on the rise. The best thing about anime is its diversity, and while we love a good action series, not everyone wants to watch Naruto fight Sasuke. Shows like Komi Can’t Communicate offer the fandom something special to explore. Hopefully My Love Story With Yamada-kun takes its big screen debut seriously.
