Arrest made in fatal shooting at Milwaukee-flag football game

Milwaukee police arrested a 30-year-old man for murder at a flag football game over the weekend.

The arrest followed a shooting Saturday at the Milwaukee Public Schools South Stadium that killed 47-year-old Raysean Barnes of Milwaukee. Police said they will forward the criminal complaint to the Milwaukee County District Attorney’s Office.

According to initial police reports, Barnes was shot at the game and taken to a hospital where he died. Authorities said they had arrested a 37-year-old in connection with the shooting, but later said they were not a suspect.

Milwaukee Public Schools said in an initial statement that a person, later identified as Barnes, was injured in an “incident.” Milwaukee Common Council President Jose Perez released a statement later Saturday confirming the man had died.

“I express my condolences to the family of the victim in this incident. I promise to help them seek justice and demand that adults begin modeling positive behavior for our children,” Perez’s statement said. “Milwaukee, we MUST do better for ourselves, our children and neighbors for the future of our city.”
