KANSAS CITY, Missouri (KCTV) – The world’s first barbecue-themed museum will open in Spring 2025 at Crown Center.

The 4,200-square-foot Museum of BBQ was founded by Jonathan Bender, a longtime writer and judge at the American Royal, and Chef Alex Pope, owner and chef at the Local Pig.

“Kansas City is a natural home for the Museum of BBQ,” says Bender. “Barbecue is synonymous with the city because of its rich traditions, and we are proud to bring the world’s first museum dedicated to grilling to KC.”

The museum is described as an “immersive experience” with rooms dedicated to the elements and regions of

Barbecue and a gift shop with rubs, sauces and barbecue items.

“Here in one of the BBQ capitals of the world, we are creating a place where you can immerse yourself in the stories

Barbecue,” says founder Jonathan Bender.

Museum visitors then learn the elements of barbecue and travel through America’s major barbecue regions to discover how each place developed its own flavor.

“Kansas City is a natural home for the Museum of BBQ,” says Bender. “Barbecuing is

Synonymous with the city because of the rich traditions here and we are proud to bring them with us

The world’s first museum dedicated to barbecue in KC.”
