WAUSAU, Wis. (WSAW) – Thursday starts off cool again, but this time we’ll have temperatures above 30° for most of us.

After a cool start to the week, temperatures will be even warmer than on Thursday.

The wind is blowing from the south, so we will warm up very quickly. Temperatures will peak in the mid to upper 60s this afternoon and skies will be mostly sunny again.

High temperatures this afternoon will be in the low 60s. We are entering a warm time.(WSAW)

Due to the gusty winds, low humidity and the fact that it has been a few days since it rained, there is an increased risk of fire compared to recent days. This also applies to Friday. Controlled burns are not recommended.

Light showers remain possible in the distant Northwoods early Saturday. These will likely remain north of Highway 64 and be below 0.25 inches. In other words, it is still not expected to be enough to alleviate the drought. The only isolated chance of rain and our best chance for rain over the next week or so is on Tuesday. It’s too early to tell how much rain we’ll get. Once the cold front passes behind these showers, that will be the end of the warmer period we are entering.

With all the clear skies we have an optimal view of the full moon. It’s also a supermoon. The Hunter’s Moon, named for the hunting season at this time of year, will reach peak illumination this morning at 6:26 a.m. CDT. If you can’t see it properly at this point, there will still be a lot of glow Thursday night into Friday morning. Our next full moon will be November 15th.
