The States of Jersey are updating the product program for free periods

A program to provide free period products has been updated and relaunched following feedback, the States of Jersey said.

The government program was first launched in September 2022 with the aim of improving access to period products.

After public feedback, the products will now be available through three distribution channels, officials said.

Lyndsay Feltham, Minister for Social Security, said: “All of this feedback has been extremely helpful and has led us to deliver a renewed system which I believe will serve Islanders much better.”

She added: “We have also thought about how the products will be distributed to ensure this is done in the best possible way.”

The new sales models are:

  • Falling short: Vending machine-sized packs of two or three pads or tampons will be available through wall-mounted dispensers
  • Monthly supply: Larger packs of pads, tampons and pads are made available at 22 community facilities
  • Reusable Products: Reusable period pants and menstrual cups will be available at four locations – Brook, Le Bas Centre, GUM and The Bridge.

To date, 55,000 product packs have been distributed under the program.
