MILLERSTOWN – There’s still time to vote for your favorite scarecrow as part of the Parktoberfest festivities taking place this Saturday at Millerstown Community Park.

The winners of the competition will be determined at the third annual Parktoberfest, scheduled for October 19th.

Now through Saturday, anyone can visit the park at 110 W. Juniata Pkwy. Here visitors will find a selection of cool and unique scarecrows with a box for voting purposes. The prizes for first to third place will be drawn on Saturday based on the votes cast.

Parktoberfest is more than just a scarecrow competition, it’s a full day of activities. From 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. there is something for everyone at the event.

From 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. there will be a dressing table, a balloon artist and a stilt walker in the children’s festival area. There is an animal show from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. There will also be a DJ on site and a dance party will take place at 12:30 p.m. The Ferris wheel race begins at 1 p.m.

Guests can enjoy the scarecrow building table and carnival games.

Children also have the opportunity to choose their own pumpkin from the Millerstown Community Garden and take it to the pumpkin painting table to decorate however they like.

“All of these activities are free. Donations come from the community and local businesses who enjoy running these activities for children.” said Will Benner, park chairman.

During this event, officials will host a “Save The Monarch Butterflies” presentation.

The event will feature a concession stand with all proceeds benefiting the park. The menu includes smash burgers, fries, pizza, chicken corn chowder, chili, hot dogs, pulled pork barbecue, mac and cheese and pork bowls, which are a combination of mac and cheese and pulled pork. Everything on the menu ranges from $1 to $8.

Then try your luck in the 50/50 raffle or the basket/gift card raffle.

If that’s not enough, you can shop at local craft vendors and then enjoy a dessert from the bake sale or Amish donuts at the concession stand.
