Williamston True Value remains open under a new name following the company’s bankruptcy

True Value sells hardware to stores like this, and even though the company has filed for bankruptcy, the owner of this store tells me that this hardware store is here to stay.

“We have known for months that True Value’s health was deteriorating,” Jeff Kodet said.

Jeff Kodet has owned Williamston True Value since 2013. But after True Value’s bankruptcy, some locations are uncertain about what the future might look like.

“There will be a few scattered moments and people will try to get it all together over the next few weeks,” Kodet said.

But Jeff says he’s prepared, and Williamston True Value will soon be known as Kodet’s Hardware with no interruptions to customers.

“We started preparing fairly early for the transition of our own company, all five Kodet hardware stores, to another (supplier) company.”

Customers like Jack Bell say they’re glad to hear the store will remain open and continue to serve the neighborhood.

“It’s never good when something ends, an era ends. So it’s good that they’re moving on,” Bell said.

“I just published a post on the Williamston community page and I think I had over 500 responses,” Kodet said. “Whether it was just a heart or a thumbs up or a comment. ‘Hey, thanks for letting us know. Glad you’re staying.’ And that means the world to us.”

One door closes, but another opens along Putnam Street.
