No. 18 TCU sweeps Texas Tech

LUBBOCK, Texas – No. 18 TCU volleyball made quick work of Texas Tech, defeating the Red Raiders to complete a three-game homestand at United Supermarkets Arena on Wednesday night.

The Horned Frogs (13-4, 5-2 Big 12) posted a .352 batting average as a team, lost the game at the service line and finished the night with seven aces. It was the fifth straight win against Texas Tech. Melanie Parra led TCU with 19 kills on 40 swings for a .400 clip. She also totaled 10 digs, recording her eighth double-double of the season. Jalyn Gibson Double figures followed with 11 kills and four aces on the service line. Becca Kelley And Alexis Roberson combined for 13 kills for an incredible .571 batting average.

With the score tied in the opening set, the TCU offense began to heat up. The three-headed dragon of Gibson, Kelley and Parra took turns scoring points to give the Frogs a 15-10 lead at the media break. Texas Tech continued to fight for points and used a late 7-2 lead to cut the lead to 23-21, but TCU had seen enough. Roberson hit a kill at set point, and Gibson served the Red Raider with an ace from the court, giving the Frogs a 25-21 set win.

Texas Tech held TCU for the first 10 points of the second set until Gibson’s kill sparked a 7-0 run and brought all the momentum to the service line. Under control, the Frogs continued to march toward the finish line and as a team won the second set 25-20 behind a .350 clip.

TCU led by two sets to zero and stayed on the gas pedal for the win. After three early Texas Tech points, the Frogs turned the set on its head with a 13-1 run as Gibson and Parra dismantled the Red Raiders at the service line. TCU ran briskly the rest of the way and Kelley provided the final momentum for a dominant 25-13 win in the final set.

No. 18 TCU returns home to Schollmaier Arena to host Cincinnati on Saturday, October 19 at 1:00 p.m. CT.
