Conway businesses raise money for those battling breast cancer

CONWAY, SC (WMBF) – Several Conway businesses as well as Conway Medical Center are in the midst of the second annual Wicked Crawl for Cancer.

“We really wanted to participate because our mother was actually diagnosed with stage four colon cancer,” says Labria Strong.

A personal connection to an important cause.

Strong is co-owner of Juice Crush in Conway. This year she wanted to make sure she took part in the annual Wicked Crawl for Cancer again.

This also includes several other businesses such as Rivertown Bistro and Bonfire Taqueria, both of which offer specialty cocktails.

“They are always created specifically for these events and we try to get really creative. Our bartenders are great at creating really creative drinks,” said Alys Lawson, manager of Rivertown Bistro.

Rivertown Bistro offers two drinks: Witches Brew and Vampire Kiss.

All month long, 100% of drink proceeds will go to the Conway Medical Center Foundation.

“We can focus the money and revenue we generate from this program on breast cancer and the patients undergoing treatment and provide mammograms for those who are uninsured or underinsured or underserved,” said Harley Shelley, deputy director of the foundation.

Eight Conway companies are participating. Shelley said it shows how much this community cares.

“It really stays local and for our community and for the people who live here who might be your neighbors,” she said.

Strong said they received a good response.

“Everyone appreciates it, everyone has a story. Everyone knows someone who has cancer or has undergone cancer treatment. Knowing they are giving back to a good cause, they enjoy it and definitely send more support,” Strong said.

She had this message for those battling cancer, no matter what kind.

“It’s okay to not be okay some days because that’s a lot to go through, but you just have to realize that there’s a whole group of people in your corner fighting for you,” she said.

While some drinks contain alcohol, many do not.
