What they say about the Phoenix Suns

The Phoenix Suns are almost finished with their 5-game preparation schedule. They wrap up their preseason tomorrow with a game against the Lakers at the Footprint Center.

The NBA season begins exactly one week from today in Los Angeles. Kevin Durant is approaching the 30,000 point mark.

Additionally, we’ll break down the latest stories, interviews, buzz and opinions on Phoenix Suns basketball below. Another week, people!

NBA preseason themes that stood out to me: The Suns defense

By: Fred Katz

Katz points to a defensive breakdown that needs to be addressed for the Suns before the regular season. Despite an overall strong preseason, it’s not all sunshine and rainbows when discussing the Suns. There is still a lot that needs to be clarified.

The Suns ranked 13th in points allowed per possession last season, but they don’t have the rim protection to save them when the perimeter can’t crush dribblers. It appears that a rookie, Ryan Dunn, could help on that front. Dunn already uses his length to stifle the best of the best. There aren’t many wings out there that can stay in front of a dribbler without crossing their feet, preventing them from getting to the rim while poking the basketball out to get a steal. Dunn already did that in the preseason.

He hits his 3s, a question mark in the draft. If he can shoot well enough to play, Phoenix will have help at the rim along with Grayson Allen and Royce O’Neale. But it can’t make these unforced errors.

Suns got a bargain on Ryan Dunn

By: Kevin O’Connor

“This is me and @DanTitus excited about Dunn, Tyus Jones and the new-look Phoenix Suns.”

This is a great breakdown and must-read from Kevin O’Connor on rookie Ryan Dunn. The media is watching and he is no longer a secret. Now it’s about turning this success into success in the regular season.

The conversation: Can Kevin Durant and Devin Booker lead the Suns’ remix squad back into title contention?

By: James Herbert

This is a fair, detailed breakdown of the Suns’ prospects for the 2024-25 season.

Considering how disastrously the season ended, it’s easy to forget some things did Go right to the suns. In his pseudo-PG role, Booker increased his assists, his turnovers decreased, and he scored as efficiently as usual. Durant missed just seven games, his fewest since tearing his Achilles tendon in 2019. Jusuf Nurkic missed just six games, his fewest since 2017-18, and generally fit in about as well as Phoenix could have hoped. Grayson Allen had a career year, making an absurd 46.1% of his 3s.

Kendrick Perkins is into… Mason Plumlee?

By: Kendrick Perkins

“The Phoenix Suns are my dark horse to win it all… This guy [Mason Plumlee]. He is so valuable to this team. He helped move the goalposts for every single team he played for.”

I mean, that’s certainly an attitude.
