Trump promises to ban transgender athletes from women’s sports

Former President Donald Trump said Wednesday he had a simple plan to address concerns about transgender athletes participating in women’s sports: “You just ban it.”

When asked by an all-female audience during a Fox News panel how he would address “the transgender issue in women’s sports,” Trump quickly quipped that it was “such a simple question.”

“Everyone in the room and you know the answer: We will not allow it,” he said, citing the dangers associated with transgender athletes playing against women.

Trump then referenced an incident Thursday night in which a San Diego State University female volleyball player was punched in the face by an opponent who had transitioned from male to female, knocking the player to the ground.

“I saw the slam, it was a slam. “I’ve never seen a ball hit so hard and hit the girl in the head,” he said. “But other people, even in volleyball, have been permanently – I mean, they’ve been hurt really badly.” Women play men.

“But you don’t necessarily have to play volleyball. We’ll stop it. We’ll stop it. We absolutely stop it. You can’t have it.”

The 45th president, 78, explained that the physical makeup of a person born male gives an unfair – and sometimes dangerous – advantage to transgender players competing against those born female.

“It’s a man who plays along. I mean, physically and muscularly, even if it was a little less, they might do all sorts of tests and medications and everything else,” he said.

“Look at what happened during the swim. Look at the records that are being broken.”

After explaining his stance, town hall moderator Harris Faulkner pressed Trump on how he would end the practice.

“How do you stop it? Do you go to the sports leagues? Are you going to the Olympics?” she asked.

Trump had a quick answer to the question: “They just ban it. The president forbids it. You just won’t let it happen.”
