Dan Campbell says the Lions are in no “hurry” to make the move following Aidan Hutchinson’s injury

Dan Campbell says the Lions are in no “hurry” to make the move following Aidan Hutchinson’s injury

It’s a similar refrain that Campbell has sung since Hutchinson went down with a broken tibia and fibula on Sunday.

The reality is that difference-making edge rushers are rarely available. Campbell knows this.

“Look, Brad knows exactly what it takes to win someone over,” he said Wednesday. “I don’t know all of them, but I know enough to know that someone who is highly productive, 6 feet tall and 250 pounds, runs a 4.4-inch arm and 35-inch arms. These guys don’t fall easy.” You have to…do you know if you have to trade Hutch for this guy? Will this certainly have an impact on our future? I’m trying to get a contract for the future.

Radiers owner Mark Davis has already dispelled rumors that Las Vegas would part ways with Eastern Michigan product Maxx Crosby. The Browns may be in selling mode, but Myles Garrett shouldn’t be on the table (perhaps Za’Darius Smith could be an option). The Bengals are unlikely to part ways with Trey Hendrickson, who was in New Orleans when Campbell and Aaron Glenn were with the team. It would reportedly cost the Jets even more to trade Haason Reddick to an NFC team.

As their Super Bowl window approaches, Holmes should definitely pick up the phone and see if it’s possible to acquire a Pro Bowl-caliber talent before the Nov. 5 trade deadline, but the odds of completing that hunt , seem to be big.

There might be a lower level move – a Jadeveon clowney type – but probably not a single move that can replace Hutchinson’s performance. That’s why Sunday’s injury was so brutal for the Lions, who are 5-0 heading into Sunday’s game against the Vikings. Six weeks later, the emergency situation at the start of the season is even clearer.
