WSU adds Louisiana Tech to 2025 football slate, now 8 games scheduled

PULLMAN – Washington State has added an eighth game to its 2025 football schedule. The Cougars host Louisiana Tech on November 15 and welcome the Bulldogs to Martin Stadium for the first time in program history.

“We fill the schedule and look far and wide,” Jake Dickert said after practice on Wednesday. “It is not easy to find games at this point after the loss of the partnership. So the government is doing a good job of finding a variety of opponents that are outside of our normal scope. This is game eight…and we’ve got four more to go.

It will be the fifth home game for Washington State in 2025, as the Cougars will host Idaho on August 30, San Diego State on September 6, UW on September 20 and, at an unscheduled date, Oregon State.

The Cougars will also travel to North Texas on September 13th, Virginia on September 27th and Ole Miss on October 11th.

What’s worth noting is that this game is a standalone game. There is no return trip to Ruston, La. planned.

LOUISIANA TECH HAT has been a successful program in the past but has fallen on hard times recently. The Bulldogs have gone 3-9 in each of the last three seasons and are now 2-4 heading into the 2024 season, their fourth under Mike Leach mentee Sonny Cumbie.

Cumbie, a former Texas Tech quarterback under Leach, was the 2004 Holiday Bowl MVP and then coached under Leach. He was an assistant at Texas Tech from 2009 to 2010 and spent the 2009 season under Leach.

Prior to this stretch, the Bulldogs had played in seven straight bowl games under Skip Holtz and won six. Louisiana Tech went 10-3 in 2019 and defeated Miami in the Independence Bowl.

Of note: This is the first game against a Conference USA opponent since WSU and SMU met in Dallas during the 2010 season. At the start of the 2019 season, WSU played and beat current Conference USA member New Mexico State, but the Aggies were independent at the time.
