Meryll Rogge Boxers Bloomer Trend Rihanna Dua Lipa 2024

At NYLON we’re a bit underwear obsessed. At the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show on October 15, we saw hours of lace and glitter, we declared sheer bras the styling hack of the summer, and underwear as outerwear continues to dominate both the runways and street style. In recent months, a new reigning champion of popular boxer shorts has emerged: Belgian designer Meryll Rogge, whose striped and checked bloomers have been worn in their own unique way by the likes of Dua Lipa, Rihanna and Chloë Sevigny.

Rogge founded her own brand in 2020 with a desire to bring nostalgia and a sense of irreverence to women’s fashion. Her individual take on fashion balances men’s fashion with women’s lingerie and makes sense for street style daredevils like Riri. Mrs. Fenty wore her Meryll Rogge to Coachella in April 2024 with an extremely full wrap skirt and a cropped Vaquera T-shirt, ensuring that her lower stomach and boxer waist were exposed for a desert-meets-lower-Manhattan look -Outfit. Sevigny showed up for her performance The Drew Barrymore Show in a look from the brand’s Fall/Winter 2024 show, featuring striped suit brown boxers and a blue hoodie. She made the look her own, as she always does, with a Victorian half-updo.

Dua, on the other hand, was on a boat (when isn’t this girl on a body of water?) wearing her Meryll Rogge checkered boxers and matching button-down shirt that she wore over her bikini. (We are already designing our bikini styling tricks for summer 2025). The diversity of these three clothing-obsessed divas shows that you can adapt the bloomer trend to your own style without looking like a kid in a diaper—though that’s part of the campy vibe that Sevigny pulls off so well. My fashion rumor mill (aka my Instagram DMs) tells me that Rogge is on the short list of designers to replace Dries Van Noten at his eponymous label. If both her four years designing strangely enchanting and totally wearable fashion for her eponymous label and her celebrity fans have anything to do with it, she’ll be taking her bow on the brand’s runway very soon.
