A community in Central Texas is opening a haunted house to raise money for student scholarships

HOLLAND, Texas (KWTX) – The Dutch community comes together to open The Butcher’s House, a haunted experience downtown to raise money for student scholarships.

The Dutch Chamber of Commerce, Jirasek Realty and several community members worked together to bring the haunted house to life.

Community members have been volunteering to create the experience for nearly two months.

“It was pretty much a daily or nightly event,” said Brian Smith, who leads the initiative. “We came here almost every day for three to four hours to unlock the door.”

He said several people stepped up to make the haunted house special for the community and praised Amanda Chanthavong for leading the artistic efforts. According to Smith, she used paper mache, paint and multiple elements to take the experience to the next level.

People donated materials, helped build the maze and created jump scares. Jirasek Realty allows the chamber to use the premises in downtown Holland free of charge.

The haunted house takes people through several sections with different themes and jump scares. Smith said the goal of the haunted house is to get through without being “caught” by the “Butcher.”

Tickets are $10 and can be purchased with cash or card at the door. It is open on October 19th, 26th and 31st from 8:00 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. or at the line stop. Smith said people don’t have to wait in line for long. Once people receive their tickets, they can walk through downtown Holland where vendors are set up until their group is called. According to the Facebook page, a kid-friendly experience is also possible.

The haunted house is located at 106 W. Travis St, Holland, TX.

All funds from the event will go toward Holland ISD scholarships for seniors.
