Women’s Animal Center hosts free pet adoption event

BENSALEM TOWNSHIP, Pa. – The Women’s Animal Center is hosting a Dolls for Paws adoption event Saturday in hopes of finding homes for many of its shelter animals.

The event will be held Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Women’s Animal Center, 3839 Richlieu Rd.

Doll 10 Beauty, an international, cruelty-free cosmetics company based in Bucks County, is partnering with Women’s Animal Center, America’s first animal shelter, to sponsor a free pet adoption event.

The event features free refreshments, basket raffles and coloring activities for the little dolls and boys. All adoption fees are fully covered by Doll 10 Beauty to support this life-saving initiative.

“Never take time for granted. Animal shelters across the country are full of pets that need our time, and now is the time to make a difference,” said Doris Dalton, founder of Doll 10 Beauty and former Mrs. America titleholder. “Our goal is to exceed last year’s success by reuniting even more animals with their forever families in 2024.”

This is Dolls for Paws’ sixth annual adoption event. At last year’s event, 41 shelter animals found new homes.

In addition to waived adoption fees, Women’s Animal Center offers spay or neuter, vaccinations, microchipping and discounted veterinary services with a 10 percent discount on the first annual health exam. Adopters receive Doll 10 adoption gift bags and, of course, unconditional love for each shelter animal adopted.

“The Women’s Animal Center helps thousands of animals in need throughout the region each year, but receives no federal, state or local funding,” said Cathy Malkemes, executive director of the Women’s Animal Center. “We rely on the generosity of our community to support our work. So having a corporate partner and animal lover like Doll 10 Beauty is truly invaluable to us and our animals.”

The partnership between Doll 10 Beauty and the Women’s Animal Center has a deeper meaning for the two organizations – because both were founded by women. Doll 10’s cruelty-free commitment to compassion for all animals is also important.

Caroline Earle White, who founded the Women’s Animal Center in 1869 as America’s first animal shelter, also founded the American Anti-Vivisection Society, which works to end the use of animals
Animals in science, education and research.

Interested adoptive parents are encouraged to arrive early on the day of the event and streamline their adoption process by checking the shelter’s website for preparation tips in advance.

Adoption applications and information about some dogs, cats and small pets currently available for adoption can be found on the Women’s Animal Center website: www.womensanimalcenter.org.
